Herbie Hancock plays the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall on Tue 7/28 at 7:30 PM ET, with a band that includes Terence Blanchard, James Genus, and Lionel Loueke. Hancock is one of the most influential pianists alive and he does not come through Baltimore every year. The Meyerhoff seats around 2,400, so a single-night booking is a tighter room than it looks. Baltimore City Restaurant Week, dinner-club style is the sleeper of the week. Fri 7/24 · DJ Diesel at Power Plant Live, 9:00 PM ET, 18+. This is Shaquille O'Neal's bass-music alias, and it is exactly as loud and ridiculous as that sounds; go if you want a heavy dubstep night, skip if you want to hear yourself think. Paid.

Flicks From The Hill at the American Visionary Art Museum runs tonight, Thu 7/23, and again Thu 7/30; gates at 5:00 PM ET, movie after dark, free with museum admission. Bring a blanket for the lawn over the harbor. One of the most reliable free nights in the city.
Conservation Window at The Walters opens Fri 7/31 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM ET, free. You watch conservators work on art restoration in real time, in the galleries, no ticket. Most people don't know the Walters does this. Drift in, watch, drift out.
After Dark
Profs and Pints: The Neanderthals Among Us is Mon 7/27 at 6:00 PM ET, 21+, about $15 in advance (not free, despite what some listings say). An evolutionary geneticist talks Neanderthal DNA over drinks, and the Q&A afterward is where the room actually talks to each other.
Music Under the Dome: Grateful Dead plays the Maryland Science Center on Fri 7/31 at 7:00 PM ET. A jam-band tribute set under the planetarium dome is a genuinely different room to hear it in. Paid.
Levity x Tape B takes Pier Six Pavilion on Fri 7/31 at 7:00 PM ET. Heavy bass and electronic music on the water (Tape B is a fast-rising dubstep producer), better for a group that wants to move than one that wants to sit. Paid.
Nikki Glaser does stand-up at The Hall at Live! on Sun 8/2. Note the room is at Live! Casino in Hanover, about 20 minutes south, not downtown. Paid.
Get Moving
Summer Yoga runs Thu 7/30 at 7:00 PM ET at the Village Learning Place in Charles Village, free, bring your own mat. Community-space casual, not studio-polished, and indoors, so the sky doesn't get a vote.
Garden Drop-Ins at Cylburn Arboretum are Sun 8/2 from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM ET, free. Cylburn sits inside the city off Northern Parkway; walk the grounds at your own pace with a garden educator around if you want to ask.
Culture Corner
Baltimore Improv Festival 2026 runs Mon 7/27 through Sun 8/2, its 17th year, a full week of shows from the city's best troupes plus guests. The festival pass is the move if you want more than one night. This is the week's cultural backbone, not the weekly drop-in show. Paid.
Vampire Weekday and Ari Voxx, presented by Baltimore Rock Opera, play Ottobar on Mon 7/27. A rock-opera night from the city's DIY theater-music scene, the kind of thing you won't find anywhere else. Paid.
Peach Face, Fetcher, Thunder Club, and more stack five local indie and punk bands on one Ottobar bill Fri 7/31, around $15. A real go-find-your-next-favorite-band night, standing room, and easy to do alone.
Hands-On Glassblowing at McFadden Art Glass runs Thu 7/23 through Sun 7/26, 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM ET each day. You make an actual glass piece and take it home, and it runs every day this week, so drop in whenever the afternoon's open. Paid.
Worth It Solo
The Restaurant Week dinner club up in Top Picks is the week's best solo move. Beyond it, the Profs and Pints lecture, the free Walters morning, and the five-band Ottobar bill above all work just as well alone; they're built for it. Standing-room shows and bar-lecture formats are the easy solo call, every time.
Worth the Trip
A few this week are worth the short drive out of the city.
Drag Brunch with HoCo Pride at Sapwood Cellars Brewery (Columbia, about 25 minutes out) is Sun 7/26 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM ET, free, no cover. Real drag performances with a full brunch menu, benefiting Howard County Pride. A genuinely affirming room, easy to do with a group or solo, and the single highest pick across our whole panel this week.
Annapolis First Sunday Arts Festival takes over West Street on Sun 8/2 from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM ET, free. Over 150 artists, food trucks, and live music. Browse for an hour and it's a full afternoon for nothing.
Nite Bite Fishing at Centennial Lake is Fri 7/24 from 6:00 PM to midnight in Howard County, $5 flat. A nighttime fishing session most people don't know exists; bring a rod and bug spray.
Capital SUP runs a Downtown Sunset Paddle on Spa Creek Sat 7/25 at 7:00 PM ET and a Full Moon Paddle Mon 7/28, both guided, in Annapolis (about 35 minutes). Pick whichever fits if you want to be on the water. Paid, registration required.
Mark Your Calendar
Pinkshift: Saccharine 5-Year Anniversary plays Ottobar Thu 8/6. A hometown punk band doing an anniversary show in a room this size is the kind of thing that sells out; get tickets now.
Lake Street Dive brings its soul-inflected indie pop to Pier Six Pavilion Tue 8/4. Outdoor pavilion, established act, buy before the good sections go.
VANNA and I Promised The World bring the metalcore to Baltimore Soundstage Wed 8/5. Smaller room, honest calendar hold.
And the Orioles are back home next weekend against the Phillies (7/31 to 8/2); Sat 8/1 has the I-95 TailGOAT pregame tailgate on Russell Street before first pitch.
